How to style the puffer

Love them or hate them, puffer jackets are a huge trend this season so if you haven’t already nabbed yourself one, then it’s high time that you did. Cosy, practical and undeniably a la mode, a good puffer jacket is one of those pieces of clothing that you’ll be able to wear lots!

Both online and in the shops, there are so many types of puffer jacket to choose from; hoods, big collars, long length and cropped, pretty much whatever your style, there’s a puffer that’ll suit. The biggest puffer style to look out for though is with slouchy shoulders a big collar, hip length and in a pastel or metallic shade. Once you’ve got your puffer all picked out, you just have to style it.

Since the puffer silhouette is oversized and slouchy, it is a good idea to pare down your bottom half to really make the distinction a feature. Skinny jeans are of course the most obvious choice and chances are you already have a pair or 3 lurking in your wardrobe. With some on trend heeled ankle boots, you’ll avoid heading down the lumberjack, overly-bulky route and will instead look chic and cosy in some of the season’s best.

Alternatively, you can use your puffer jacket as the perfect foil for a slinky fitted skirt or dress and thick tights. You’ll look dainty and elegant whilst still enjoying the toasty warmth of your puffer.

Since the typical puffer tends to be a bit oversized, why not go all out with a correspondingly slouchy jumper? Chunky knits, balloon sleeves and uneven handkerchief hems all lend themselves perfectly to this style.  The bigger the better really, and you might as well go all out since the puffer is one of the few coat silhouettes that’ll let you get away with wearing supremely chunky knits!

Since dramatically puffy and high collars are with this season’s collars, then we recommend putting your hair up to really show off the coat style. A severe high bun will look great, but it’s not for everyone, so as a more a gentle approach, what about a front braid with a messy bun.

And as for the shoes, we’ve already mentioned how we love heeled ankle boots with this style, however sometimes we want something that’s just a little bit more comfortable. Trainers thankfully remain a huge trend, so why not tap into the sports luxe look with trainers and your puffer? Wear with a knitted crop top for a 90s look that any supermodel would be proud of.

We are loving puffers this season, and you should too especially considering how easy they are to style. So nab yourself one now!
